Assessment
Not only do I think a variety of assessment methods are necessary in the classroom, but I believe giving students options for how to be assessed can be efficient if done so in a structured way. Attached is a choice board I created for a subunit of Ecology.

Planning for Instruction
During my Ecology unit, I incorporated many “human impact” activities and discussions. This allowed students to connect biological processes (photosynthesis, etc) directly to their everyday lives. I have striven to make this unit as personal as possible. I believe that using activities that link the content to students’ lives can help them see science as reality, not as something just found in a book. This can help remove learning blocks for students who need to see practical application to what they are learning.

Instructional Strategies
During my student teaching experience, I attempted to try as many approaches to instruction as I could. During one particular unit, Cells, I incorporated technology in the form of our class’s Promethean board as well as our one-to-one laptops. Attached are documents that accompanied this lesson.
