I am currently developing online laboratory modules for Gull Lake Gateway Academy. My responsibilities include studying the curriculum for the online Biology courses and selecting appropriate inquiry-based lab activities for students to complete in order to supplement their learning. This allows me to explore the curriculum and connect it to inquiry methods and technology, but most importantly, it allows students to apply their learned knowledge to hands-on activities.

Application of Content
During my Ecology unit, I incorporated many “human impact” activities and discussions. This allowed students to connect biological processes (photosynthesis, etc) directly to their everyday lives. I have striven to make this unit as personal as possible. At one point during our cell energy unit, students read an article regarding problems caused by high levels of carbon dioxide in classrooms. Students were asked to come up with a possible solution to this problem. Many students cited the placement of photosynthetic plants in classrooms as a solution, proving that they can connect biological concepts to engineering issues!
