Teachers and Copyrighted Information
Copyright Vs. Fair Use by Jacqueline L. Cahill
--There are four factors that affect whether or not the use of something falls under "Fair Use": 1) Purpose and character of use, 2) Nature of the copyrighted work, 3) Amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and 4) the Effect of the use on the market or potential market for the copyrighted work.
----Example for factor 4: Copying another teacher's textbook for your own students would prevent profit from your students buying the textbook.
--Teachers can use 10% or 1000 words of a copyrighted text
--Teachers can use 10% or 3 minutes of a motion picture
Copyright for Librarians and Teachers, in a Nutshell by Carrie Russell
--I thought it would be interesting to read about not just things that teachers use, but things that teachers create! I learned in this article that the things you create, like lesson plans, are actually not copyrighted to you! If they are created for use in a school while employed by that school, they are considered copyrighted by the school. I don't like this! :(
